Aerosol is one of major sources consisting modern issues related to air environment. Water aerosol has received considerable interest as a primary means of transmitting the COVID-19 virus. Besides this emergent situation, water aerosols are deeply involved in our industries and environments; depending on their application, water aerosols are differently referred to as mist, white smoke, fog, and cloud. Solid aerosol, known as particulate matter (PM), is also of our interest for filtering technology.

Multiphase flow is an important subject in general engineering processes involving two or more phases of fluids. The most common examples of multiphase flows are air/water and water/oil. Our lab studies the macroscopic and microscopic design of solid structures, as well as their wettability (such as super-hydrophilic or hydrophobic) to control multiphase flow in various oil recovery technologies (oil-water separation, oil skimmer, oil absorbent, and so on), heat exchangers, and water harvesting devices.
